From Crime Reporter to Travel Writer: Kassondra Cloos Shares Her Fascinating Journey

by Nathan James Thomas

Kassondra Cloos used to spend her days on the crime beat in Colorado Springs, filing as many as five stories per day, each more grim and grizzly than the last.

Then, she pivoted. Using her love for the outdoors as a bridge, she transported her career from reporting to travel writing. Eventually, her path took her to London, where she fell in love with a quirky series of guides from independent publisher Hoxton Mini Press. Eventually, they would ask her to write the Opinionated Guide to Wild London.

Kassondra joins The Travel Writing Podcast to share her journey into travel writing, the differences between her experiences in the UK and the US, and why, after five years in London, she has chosen this moment to return home and write uplifting travel stories about the United States.

Kassondra Cloos was the 2024 British Guild of Travel Writers Travel Writer of the Year, and you can find her writing at the Out of Office Substack.
