Drawing from his experience as a highly acclaimed travel author and a professor of creative writing at top colleges, Kurt Caswell will break down four vital frameworks for publishing a travel story that works.
At the end of the workshop, you will:
- Understand the four fundamental structures behind successful travel essays. You will learn about chronological, circular, reflective, and braided structures, with practical examples, so you can immediately understand how to apply these structures to your experiences.
- Apply these structures to your travel experiences. You will start to sift through your own travel experiences and gain clarity on which essay structure best fits the many experiences you have, which you want to write about. You’ll start mapping this out during the workshop itself.
- Begin your own professional-standard travel essay. Kurt will take you by the hand and help you apply any of the four structures to a travel experience you have in mind. You’ll take the first steps to map out the journey, so you can continue writing with confidence after the workshop ends.
Meet Your Hosts
Your Instructor: Kurt Caswell
Kurt Caswell is an award-winning author and educator. He is the author of five acclaimed books, including Iceland Summer, and Laika’s Window, winner of a Foreword Indie Silver Medal, with his writing appearing widely in leading literary journals. A recipient of the Lucy Grealy Memorial Scholarship and multiple Pushcart Prize nominations, he holds degrees from the Bread Loaf School of English and Bennington College and has taught around the world, from Japan to the American Southwest. He is currently a professor in the Honors College at Texas Tech University.
