- Finding timely and lesser-known hooks and angles: So your pitch leaps out and grabs the attention of busy editors (and makes writing that much easier and more fun)
- How to dig more deeply into stories fed by PRs and tourist boards: So you can build your professional connections and increase your income, while maintaining your passion and integrity as a writer.
- Targeting different publications for various aspects of one trip, with separate stories to suit each publication. How to find different angles and hooks so that you can create (and get paid for!) multiple fresh, interesting stories from one simple travel experience.
- How accumulated research from your travels can be developed into travelogues: Understand how to start turning your travels into non-fiction proposals that will hook the attention of publishers, (if you are interested in getting a travel book published one day, pay close attention to this section).

Mary Novakovich is an award-winning travel writer and journalist based in Hertfordshire, UK. For more than 25 years, she has been contributing to publications including the Times, Guardian, Telegraph, Independent, CNN Travel, Wanderlust, Condé Nast Traveller and Lonely Planet, among many others, as well as reports for BBC Radio. In 2023, her travelogue My Family and Other Enemies: Life and Travels in Croatia’s Hinterland won the British Guild of Travel Writers’ Best Travel Narrative Book award and was also shortlisted for the Stanford Travel Book of the Year.
