Our recent “Romance on the Road” travel writing competition was our most popular yet, with hundreds of stories making their way into the inbox. We’ve learned a lot about what makes a great travel story over the years, and for the first time, when compiling our lists of favorites, the same stories topped each of our lists.
In this podcast episode, we take you behind the scenes of “Romance on the Road” and show you what it looks like when editors sit down to choose the winners out of hundreds of entries. Along the way, we’ll talk about what the winners did differently that made them stand out from the rest, and share hard-won insights for writing a powerful travel story that editors can’t say no to.

Here are the stories we referenced in the podcast:

- Finalist: Romancing the Ice by Jana Dietrich
One more finalist will be published this week, with the winner published next week!
